Krisan Marotta

Welcome, I’m Krisan Marotta. Wednesday in the Word is my podcast about what the Bible means and how we know.

MEET Krisan Marotta

Unraveling the meaning of Scripture, one study at a time with clarity, depth and joy.

Krisan Marotta is not your average Bible scholar. She’s a thoughtful teacher, lifelong learner, and enthusiastic clog dancer who brings clarity, curiosity, and joy to everything she does—especially when it comes to studying Scripture.

As the creator and host of Wednesday in the Word, a verse-by-verse Bible teaching podcast with listeners in more than 150 countries, Krisan is committed to helping Christians grow in their understanding of God’s Word—one passage at a time.

Her journey began late in high school when she became a Christian through the ministry of Youth for Christ. But it was during her college years at Stanford University, under the influence of Ray Stedman at Peninsula Bible Church, that her love for Scripture truly took root. PBC’s emphasis on verse-by-verse teaching and the importance of every believer learning to study the Bible for themselves laid the foundation for a lifelong calling.

With a degree in journalism, Krisan learned how to ask good questions, do careful research, and distill complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives—all skills that now shape her teaching.

Later, she completed a three-year postgraduate program in biblical exegesis at McKenzie Study Center in Oregon, where she studied biblical languages, theology, church history, and the art of interpretation.

But her real training has come through decades of personal study, driven by a passion to understand—and a desire to share.

“I love to learn and I love to study,” she says. “Eventually I learn so much I feel like I’ll burst if I don’t tell someone else about it.”

That’s how she became, in her words, the “teacher of last resort”—stepping in when no one else would and discovering a gift for helping others find joy and confidence in their own study of Scripture.

In 1994, she started teaching a local Bible study called Wednesday in the Word. When digital media began replacing cassette tapes and churches started tossing out old teaching archives, Krisan launched a podcast in 2011 to preserve and share biblical teaching for future generations. At the time, there were fewer than 300 podcasts on iTunes. What began as a one-woman archiving effort has since grown into a global ministry.

Each season of Wednesday in the Word focuses on a single book or topic, walking through it verse by verse with theological rigor and practical insight. Krisan spends 15–20 hours a week in study, striving to explain not only what the Bible says, but how we know it says that—modeling the process of sound interpretation so others can learn to do it too.

Though her reach is global, Krisan remains grounded. Whether she’s teaching Scripture, spending time with her grandchildren, or dancing with the Skyline Country Cloggers, she sees everyday life as the proving ground of what she believes.

“The knowledge you gain is useless unless you let it change your life,” she says.

And for Krisan, the heart of that transformation is grace, mercy, and hope lived out in relationships.

Looking ahead, Krisan hopes to expand her ministry through publishing books based on her teachings. But her core mission remains the same: to help others discover the deep, life-changing truth of the Bible for themselves—and to keep learning as long as the Lord allows

Servant Songs of Isaiah

Servant Songs of Isaiah

Isaiah gives us the fullest revelation of Christ in the Old Testament, most notably the Servant Songs. The exile raised the question: Can fail such that God will abandon us and we forfeit His God? In the Servant Songs, God demonstrates that not only will He remain committed to His people, He will willingly choose to endure suffering in order to forgive and redeem His people.

Philippians: Choose Life

Philippians: Choose Life

Paul’s letter to the Philippians is filled expressions of praise, joy and confidence, despite the fact that Paul wrote the letter while he was in prison. The Philippian church, unlike many other churches Paul wrote to, was not facing any particular problem or controversy. Instead their challenges were the kind that plague many churches today. We can learn from Paul how to rejoice and persevere in the mundane, ordinary difficulties of life.
