by | Apr 11, 2018 | 01 Podcasts, Isaiah

In the first half of this chapter, Isaiah 54:1-10, we learned the new age introduced by the Messiah contains a new seed, a new land and a New Covenant whose glory far surpassed the Old Covenant.

In 54:11-17 Isaiah speaks of a New City to demonstrate that what the Servant accomplished through his death and resurrection not only fulfilled the Old Covenant, but it far surpasses Israel’s grandest dreams.

The Future Splendor of the New Jerusalem (54:11-12)

54:11 “O afflicted one, storm-tossed, and not comforted, Behold, I will set your stones in antimony, And your foundations I will lay in sapphires.
12 “Moreover, I will make your battlements of rubies, And your gates of crystal, And your entire wall of precious stones. – Isaiah 54:11-12 NASB
  • Israel’s dark past is contrasted with her glorious future.
  • No expense will be spared in creating the New City (jewels will be used throughout).
  • The precious stones are a metaphor for God’s “sheep”, His people.

The Future Education of the New Jerusalem (54:13)

13 “All your sons will be taught of the LORD; And the well-being of your sons will be great. – Isaiah 54:13 NASB
  • All believers will be personally taught by the Lord.
  • Because the Lord teaches everyone, it guarantees their well-being (peace).

The Future Security of the New Jerusalem (54:14-17)

14 “In righteousness you will be established; You will be far from oppression, for you will not fear; And from terror, for it will not come near you.
15 “If anyone fiercely assails you it will not be from Me. Whoever assails you will fall because of you.
16″Behold, I Myself have created the smith who blows the fire of coals And brings out a weapon for its work; And I have created the destroyer to ruin.
17 “No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their vindication is from Me,” declares the LORD.” – Isaiah 54:14-17 NASB
  • The basis of their security: righteousness.
  • The result of their security: freedom from fear.
  • Victory is guaranteed in the new battles
