Despite the popularity of podcasts today, many people don’t know how to get started listening. Don’t be embarrassed! Ironically, because there are so many different ways to listen, getting started is confusing. Anyone can click on a YouTube video or google a website, but where do you find podcasts? Here are some tutorials.
Here’s a simple guide you can share or use yourself to help someone get started listening to podcasts:
You don’t need any special equipment—just a smartphone, tablet, or computer with internet access. Here’s how to begin:
Choose a Podcast App
Most smartphones already come with a free podcast app:
- iPhone/iPad: Use the Apple Podcasts app (pre-installed) or Overcast.
- Android phones: Try Spotify, Pocket Casts or Podcast (free in the Play Store).
Other popular apps available on both platforms:
- Amazon Music
- YouTube
- iHeartRadio
- Pandora
- Podchaser
- Deezer
Search for the Podcast
Open your chosen app and use the search feature. Type in: “Wednesday in the Word”
Tap the show when it appears, then tap Follow or Subscribe (depending on the app).
Start Listening
You’ll see a list of episodes. Tap any episode to play it. Start from the beginning of the current season or jump into the current episode, whatever works for you. You can also scroll through the list to pick a different season.
Download for Offline Listening (Optional)
Most apps let you download episodes. Look for a small arrow or download icon. This is helpful if you want to listen without using mobile data or being connected to the internet.
Listen on a Computer (No App Needed)
If you prefer not to use a phone, just go to: wednesdayintheword.com/podcast_home and search for the season you want to hear.
